LATERAL PROGRAM
The LSPD Lateral Entry Program, Operation Blue to Blue, offers experienced police officers the opportunity to join one of the city’s top law enforcement agencies. Officers who have demonstrated outstanding performance in their careers and are ready to meet the LSPD’s high standards may now apply.
The Lateral Entry Program is available to candidates who hold a valid police certification and have completed their probationary period with a previous police agency.
Lateral candidates must still meet all requirements for LSPD police officers and complete all stages of the selection process. The program includes an accelerated training and orientation. Training for lateral hires is typically held periodically and is specifically designed to recognize the candidate’s experience as a seasoned officer, rather than as a new recruit.
To be eligible for return to active duty, a retired officer shall:
- Have a good service record
- Never have been dishonorably discharged
- Have no serious violations prior to retirement
- Submit a reactivation request through the department’s official channels
- Passed the evaluation or interview process conducted by the Command Staff
- Be willing to undergo refresher training if required
- Comply with all SOPs and the department’s latest regulations
- Resume active duty after approval
